Guest Tony_r Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 Hi All,This is my first post and I am hopeful that the forum members will be able to assist me in my plight. My wife has a 2003 1.9tdi with about 30k on the clock. The speedo has died, at first it was intermittant but now it is completly defunct. The fuel gauge is also a bit tempermental, Ok most of the time but occasionally dying. When driving the car the ABS light is on permanently and the handbrake light flashes and occasionally you get an ear piecing bleep from the dash. Any ideas?? (Brakes have been checked no probs there) I am toying with the idea of buying a Vagcom cable but am not sure if this will assist with the above. Is there anybody out there in the Manchester area who has some experience? One other piece of background info - I took it to a main dealer earlier in the summer for the mass flywheel recall, they failed to fasten one of the gearbox bolts securely. The bolt would slide into the gear selector mechanism intermittantly when driving up hill, meaning that 1st & 2nd couldn't be engaged. this took weeks to resolve as Fraud & the Fraud agent repeatedly denied any responsibility. Hence forth I am reluctant to go anywhere near these guys.Any suggestions gratefully recieved,Tony  Quote

Sorry Tony if it seems I'm going on at you here (I'm not) just had a hard day today then came on here reading the latest posts and Ford dealers are getting it again. Mark Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 hi tony mark is right new clocks dude, bad news i got quoted Quote
NikpV Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 If it was just the speedo I would suggest a faulty speed sensor (on gearbox IIRC). With the other problems may be the instrument cluster :( We had a similar problem with the fuel gauge - Ford tried changing the cluster twice before deciding that there was a problem with the design, one set of clocks had us travelling at 70mph across the forecourt :( eventually they sorted out the design and we got a new instrument cluster a year out iof warranty (with a little threatening + support of garage). The abs light is usually a speed sensor ring on the front wheels (rusts and falls off - becomes detached) of the sebnsor itself. Mark Bloody hell - it was with the support of another ford master technician that got our cluster changed a year out of warranty due to design problems welcome Mark. I know you're not all the same - in fact I've got a link to a recommended dealer on the site somewhere due to how helpful they were. You could be very busy here :D :D  Quote
Guest Tony_r Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 Hi Mof4 The Car is Silver - without any stickers  Hi MarkDon't take the comments about Dealers & Garages too personally - I'm sure there's a mix of good and bad like in most walks of life. The bad guys probably wouldn't be interested in a Forum such as this. Your reply was not what I wanted to hear but at least I don't have to get involved in the Vag-com hook up. thxtony Quote
markchambers Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 Sorry every one, not been on for a bit and I got a little p***ed of after reading h**p://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=9930 all about crap ford technicians etc, etc, etc, all I can say is thanks mumof4 for ending that thread as I was about to start ranting myself (my blood was close to boiling) and poor Tony copped for it (sorry mate). Anyway back on subject, You must have a few dealers to choose from in Manchester area, there's, Quicks, Evans Halshaw, Omc (Oldham and Rochdale) so if your not happy with one mate give another a go. You should be looking at around 1 hours labour to diagnose, then they will have to order the cluster no doubt (can't imagine them keeping one in stock but Ford parts Daventry should have one so it will arrive next day if ordered V.O.R (vehicle off road)), some dealers will charge you for programming the cluster up some won't, it's down to the manager really (they'll cover it in the diagnostic time). Hope this helps mate ThanksMark Quote
